SFRR-Europe Summer School, Spetses, Greece

The Summer School, alongside our annual congress, is one of the two standing pillars of our Society, and among the activities we hold most dear. Where the congress gathers the field to take stock of its most recent advances, the School turns towards those who will carry the discipline forward.

For more than twenty years, the SFRR-E Summer School has brought early-career researchers together with the scientists who have shaped redox biology, on the island of Spetses, in Greece, for a full week of lectures, discussion and shared work in front of the magnificent Saronic Sea. It is, above all, a school: a place where young and senior scientists (doctoral students and early postdoctoral scientists) interact without haste, where methods and open questions are properly argued over, and where many lasting collaborations — and friendships — have begun. This is how we understand the purpose of our Society, the advancement of free radical research being, for us, inseparable from the formation of the young researchers who will carry it forward.

For SFRR-Europe, the Summer School is more than an item in the calendar. It is one of the ways the Society renews itself, and it is offered in that spirit.

This year's SFRR-E Summer School

Each edition takes up a theme of real consequence for the field, with the support of the Society and its sponsors so that participation rests on scientific merit rather than means. A gathering of this kind does not happen by itself, and we wish to thank most warmly its organisers — Dr. Niki Chondrogianni, Prof. Marzia Perluigi and Prof. Fabio Di Domenico — for the effort and dedication they devote to it. It is thanks to colleagues such as these that the Summer School remains, edition after edition, one of the happiest and most valuable traditions of our SFRR-E family.
